Welding Winners

By Robertson, June 11, 2010 9:37 am

Mr. Dugas’ welding students recently held a friendly competition down in the welding lab. Eight students participated in the project. Their challenge was to weld their own design out of 5 horseshoes and complete the project in 5 school days. Once the final projects were in, Colby Zboya was selected as the winner with his sculpture of a Cowboy. Honorable mentions went to the designers of a Wine Bottle Holder, a CD Holder and a Crown. Watch for more creative projects from the welding lab/wood shop next year!

BCHS Students Chosen to Participate in CEMC Seminars in Computer Science for Young Women

By Robertson, June 10, 2010 11:16 am

Madison Yaworski and Natasha Krochak, both Grade 10 students at Bishop Carroll High School, were recently selected from over 200 applicants to attend the CEMC (Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing) Seminar in Computer Science for Young Women. Madison attended the University of Waterloo session from May 31 to June 4 to participate in the first session and Natasha will attend the University of Calgary from June 14 to 18 to participate in the second session.

The CEMC Seminar in Computer Science for Young Women is a unique opportunity designed to ignite enthusiasm for computer science in interested grade 9 and 10 female students from across Canada. The young women invited learn that computer science is about much more than using and programming computers. Through lectures, labs and hands-on activities, the seminar explores the foundations and applications of computer science that have a profound effect on the world today. Lectures, labs and hands-on activities typically investigate ideas demonstrating the breadth of Computer Science. This might include introductions to cryptography, bioinformatics, Internet search engines, graphics, human-computer interaction and hardware. All sessions are lead by University professors and graduate students. For more information visit http://www.cemc.uwaterloo.ca/events/csgirls.html

We congratulate Madison and Natasha on their selection for this wonderful learning opportunity!
