Western Celebration

The Speech Club’s successful run continued at Western Canada High School’s Speech Tournament on Friday, November 13.  Student Coaches Sammy Roach and Harrison Fleming earned first place respectively in “Original Oratory” and “Impromptu.”  Third place medals were awarded to Nicolas Méthot for his “Oral Interpretation of Prose” and Tegen Dunnill Jones for her “Oral Interpretation of Poetry.”  Nancy Kamar and Janelle Beaven were also fierce competitors in their categories.  All six members qualify to represent Bishop Carroll at Speech Regionals, the equivalent of the City Championships, in February 2010.  Way to go!

Nicolas

Congratulations to Nicolas Méthot for earning first place at the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs’ United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth Speech Competition on November 6.  We are extremely proud that Nicolas is following in the footsteps of former Speech and Debate member Matthew Atwood [2006 BCHS Graduate] by winning this prestigious award.  Nicolas’ prize includes a 12 day tour of United Nations-related sites in such destinations as Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and New York City this summer.  The Speech Club hopes to continue this successful tradition in the coming years.
