Athletics

The Bishop Carroll Athletics program encompasses the Health, Fitness, and Recreation faculty, Intramural sports, and the Carroll Cardinals extracurricular sports teams.

HFR

We offer the most unique personal physical education program in Alberta, with HFR 10, 20, and 30 available as 3, 4, and 5 credit programs. Students make their own choices as to what activities they wish to do, chosen from the wide variety of options offered over the course of the year.

Cardinal Athletics

Bishop Carroll High School participates in every sport offered by the Calgary Senior High School Athletics Association with the exception of Wrestling. The CSHSAA is comprised of 25-30 schools divided into 3 divisions that can be based on population (schools size) and/or team talent. Schools can choose to play in the division of their choice based on the ability to compete.

Traditionally Bishop Carroll teams compete in division 2 or 3 and we are the second smallest school in population in the city of Calgary. Some of our teams will compete in division 1 in certain years depending on the strength of the team. As an example our girls soccer team has competed in Division 1 for the past three years, however our boys football team competes in Division 3. Individual sports of the CSHSAA do not separate into divisions, therefore our athletes compete against the top athletes in the city. These sports include Cross Country Running, Swim & dive, and Track & Field.

The schedules for each activity can be found on the individual pages under Athletics on the menu bar.

Intramurals

Intramural sports for the 08/09 year included Floor Hockey, Dodgeball, and Arena Soccer. The Dodgeball tournement occurs in co-participation with Student Council and the international Right to Play organization. A photo gallery of the 2009 tournement can be found here.
